My 2005 Highlander makes a load screeching sound when I first start it after it's been sitting for a long time. The screeching only lasts a few seconds and comes from the engine compartment. Any idea what might be the cause?

most likely SLIPPING alternator belt. from the sudden high drag from alternator after start up trying to replenish battery. either your belt tension is too loose or your belt is sufficiently worn to allow slippage.and a word of advice, never buy the cheap belts.

Probably a slipping drive belt, check the tension, condition ofn the belt and also for any contamination of the belts as well.
