Car will not restart on a hot day after getting gas. Car will not start when engine is cold and gas is low in tank. Little to no torque in lower gears when accelerating. Gas mileage in city is ok. Gas mileage on highway is bad. Less than 20 mpg.

Is the check engine light on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure to see if it is within the manufacturer's specs?

No check engine light on, although I kind of wish it would throw a code, would make it easier to diagnose. Idle is very smooth. Runs quiet

I agree. It becomes a guessing game without a code. I guess the only thing I can suggest at this point is to start by checking fuel pump pressure when the temps cause a problem. It could even be the temp sensor causing the problems. If it doesn't read right, it may be telling the computer to lean the fuel mixture because it thinks it's hot or make the mixture rich because it senses it's cold.
