I recently got rear ended in the tail gate, it pushed the metal in 2 inches or so. Now, I'm finding I simultaneously am having multiple electrical problems (None of which I previously had). The following Electrical problems now exist:
1) The rear door hatch will not open (With key manually, or with remote)
2) Rear window will not go down
3) Rear washer & wiper won't work
4) Rear defroster won't turn on

In addition to the above rear tail gate area problems, I also have these two Electrical problems:
5) The rear window button on my dash also will not open my rear window
6) The power windows (ALL four) will not open

Lastly, all of the above happened simultaneously, and I feel, are likely due to the rear end. Also, I should point out that there is no clicks or noises when I attempt to unlock rear latch or any of the windows--indicative of an electrical problem. I'm thinking it may be covered by Auto Insurance? The hit was primarily to the right of the license plate, and not directly to the left of the license plate which I believe is where the Back Door ECU is located. Would that matter? Do you recommend the Auto Insurance to repair? To me, I know it's "somehow" all related, but you know how Insurance Companies are. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you kindly!

The impact has most probably damaged something and it could be a blown fuse due to some wires getting crushed. Check the fuses and if any are blown, you would need to check the damaged area for wires that has been crushed causing shorting.

As to insurance, it is best to check with them directly as terms and conditions applies and the best person to advise would be the agents themselves.

I'm quite a handy guy. I've checked all fuses visually & some with a meter and they are all good. The rear end problem which I've mentioned above ALL seem to make sense with regard to a rear end hit--although it wasn't much of a hit. So, I suppose my real question to you, is What could be causing my 4 windows to not roll down? Could you expound on this some. Thank you!

The power windows, tailgate, Body control Control Module, Back Door ECU and door locks are all interlinked. Any fault in any of the circuits can affect others.

Check through the fuses listed in the schematics to see if there is any that you have missed out.

Thank you very much for your assistance!

Oh. I'll cut you loose, but just "one" more question (please?): "If" my Auto insurance won't pay for the 4 window problem, A) do you think it "likely" to be the Body ECU? --Behind the fuse box/under the dash. And B) I'm handy-could a handy guy change it out? And C) Could you recommend a "best" place to purchase part/s for a good/best price?

Thanks so much!

'ROUND HEREIF YOU GET HIT IN THE REAR----IT'S THEIR FAULT AND ALL REPAIRS WOULD BE "ON" THEIR INSURANCE COMPANY. UNLESS YOU WERE BACKING UP (YOUR FAULT), OR YOUR RIG WAS DECLARED TOTALLED OUT

THE BEST THING TO BE DONE IS INVOLVE THE POLICE, GET A REPORT, AND SORTA SHOW FAULT BEING THE OTHER GUY. FORMALITIES IN CASE YOUR "STORY" IS "NOT BELIEVED" AT A FUTURE TIME, BY ANY PARTY INVOLVED

AS YOU SEE THESE NEW RIGS ARE SORTA DAINTY AND CAN'T STAND A LICK. AS OLDER STUFF COULD

USED TO WE (AND I STILL DO) HAD BUMPERS. DESIGNED TO TAKE A LICK, AND AT MOST, ANY LOW SPEED WHACK, MIGHT REQUIRE A HIGH DOLLAR. LIKE MAYBE "UP TO" A $200? BUMPER TO BE INSTALLED ON THE VICTIM VEHICLE

NOW DAYS. YOU NO LONGER HAVE A BUMPER YOU SORTA HAVE A BODY ALL THE WAY AROUND. DAMAGE TO WHAT USED TO BE CALLED A BUMPER MIGHT VERY WELL BE A "TOTALLED VEHICLE"

I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT GOING UP THERE TO DETROIT AND INTRODUCING A CHROMED METALLIC THAT COULD BE INSTALLED ON THE FRONT AND BACK OF THESE NEW "BODY CARS".I THINK I'LL CALL MY INVENTIONS."BUMPERS II".I FORECAST THEM AS BEING A LARGE HIT IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY

ANYWAY.

THIS IS WHAT "INSURANCE" IS FOR

IT'S NOT FOR YOU TO DO THE OLE "CARP FLOP" AND REQUEST A NEW SPINAL CORD INSTALLED. ATTEMPTING TO GET RICH!

IN THIS CASEIT'S THERE TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE, IF THE OTHER FELLER ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGED IT. BACK TO LIKE IT WAS

I GOT NAILED IN THE REAR OF MY 1977 JEEP CJ 5, THIS DROVE ME INTO THE FELLER IN FRONT OF ME TOO

MR. PILE DRIVER WAS FOUND AT FAULT. NOT PAYING ATTENTION

HIS INSURANCE COMPANY WANTED TO TOTAL MINENOT!I PRODUCED RECEIPTS (IN MY PERSONAL LOG BOOK) FOR EVERYTHING I HAD INVESTED IN IT SINCE I GOT IT YEARS AGO, NOT TO MENTION IT QUALIFIED AS AN "ANTIQUE" AT THE TIME.

EVEN THOUGH IT WAS (STILL IS) A DAILY DRIVER AND IT WAS NOT A "SHOW ROOM SPECIAL"---- IT'S MINE! -- I LOVE IT! --- I WANT IT BACK. LIKE IT WAS. YOU MUST STAND YOUR GROUND. THEY WANT YOU TO BE MEEK AND GO WITH THE FLOW

REPAIRS TO MINE ALONE, EXCEEDED THE "TENTATIVE TOTALLED PRICE" BY OVER 2 Xs. NOT TO MENTION WHAT MY BEAST DID TO THE LEXUS IN FRONT OF ME.

HIS INSURANCE HAD TO PAY IT ALL! (LIKE IT SHOULD)

BELOW----OVER 10 OR SO YEARS LATER. STILL GOT MY BABY, "MR. JEEP", DRIVEN NEARLY EVERY DAY

That's some good stuff there Medic,

However, my vehicle was hit while I was in Walmart, and when I came out to my car, he/she wasn't around to visit & didn't inform me of anything, leaving no notes, etc. It is NOT a big dent, I should say, but it is there, and it did leave some electrical damage (Although, this fact is where I suspect the insurance people may/may not agree-as the dent wasn't wiping out my whole rear end or anything.) I had a couple unanswered question, if you don't mind answering them:
Again, I recently got rear ended in the tail gate, it pushed the metal in 2 inches or so. Now, I'm finding I simultaneously am having multiple electrical problems (None of which I previously had). The following Electrical problems now exist:

6) The power windows (ALL four) will not open
I ask this because, although in my mind I'm 99.9% certain the above mention listed electrical problems in my 4Runner occurred due to this "hit & run"--I am fully aware that Insurance companies like to attempt to say "we won't cover that", and I'll fight them if they do BUT. "If" my Auto insurance won't pay for the 4 window problem mentioned above: A) Do you think it "likely" to be the Body ECU? --Behind the fuse box/under the dash. And B) I'm handy-could a handy guy change it out? And C) Could you recommend a "best" place to purchase part/s for a good/best price should I need any Toyota parts?

Thank you so much for yours answers!

Cordially,

I CAN GET YOU WIRING DIAGRAMS FOR SPECIFIC SYSTEMS. DON'T ASK FOR ALL OF THEM, AS THERE MAYBE BE HUNDREDS. WE GET USE OF "MITCHELL I" SORTA AS A FRINGE BENEFIT FOR ANSWERING HERE

AS YOU CAN SEE I'M STILL LIVING IN THE '40s-'70s. NEWER RIGS ARE NOT MY PIECES OF THE PIE!

I CAN'T ANSWER THE MODULE QUESTIONS AND SUCH

I DON'T KNOW HOW RECENT YOU GOT NAILED

MY NEIGHBOR TOOK A LICK BEFORE CHRISTMAS. OVER THERE AT WALLY WORLD TOO!

THEY WERE ABLE TO SEE THE TRUCK THAT DID IT---IT HAD IT'S OWN SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS -- THIS NOT BEING A BIG METROPOLIS, HE WAS ABLE TO LOCATE IT

. ALL THANKS TO THE EYE IN THE SKY ON TOP OF THE BUILDING!

NOW THEN--THESE DIAGRAMS ARE USUALLY FANTASTIC---THEY SHOW IT ALL FROM FUSE TO FINISH--EVEN THE LOCATIONS OF STUFF

INTERESTED?

THESE OTHER "NINTENDO AGE" EXPERTS MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU WITH THE CYBER CAR QUESTIONS YOU HAVE

You need to perform test to find out the cause of the problem and if it is the BCM or the Back door ECU, replacing them is not too difficult and you should be able to handle it.

If the components are found to be faulty, you need to check the wirings for shorting due to impact damages as it could be th cause of the control units going bad.

Such parts are dealer only parts and there won't be any after market replacement parts available.
