Air conditioner engage button ( light) stays on all . Air conditioner on when in any position except off.
If you hold the engage button in the air warms and engage klight goes off . How to remove the button and any other info would be helpfull.

It sounds like you might be having a problem with your ac system. I don't think the button itself is where the problem is. It is likely that you have a leak in the system and so it is low on refrigerant.
