2005 Ford Freestyle Issues:

Here’s a short synopsis of the problems I’m having:

I was driving home from Sandusky last week. Went to use cruise control, cruise would stay on for 30 seconds then shut off. Would set again, maybe stay on couple minutes, go off. Stop using.
About an hour into drive noticed air stopped working. Looked at climate control display, it was blank. Got home and noticed after car was turned of, lights around climate control still stayed on. Disconnected battery for an hour then reconnected the battery. Lights stayed off but now AC would not work. Had charge checked on AC, all good, said it was an electrical issue.
I also started seeing this sequence of events:
Oil pressure and brake would come on in instrument cluster
Dash lights would come on along with message on radio saying “Check DVD player”
Backup lights would come on
This process will repeat sporadically, sometimes in fast succession, sometimes minutes in between.
I notice when this process is happening, the turn signals will not function. The will work all other times.
I also notice sometimes the lights around the climate control with randomly come on as well.
I think the cruise is working now,
I did a little research on the internet and found a couple service bulletins relating to this issue. Cold solder joints we’re suspect on the instrument cluster oscillator. Replaced the instrument cluster with a used cluster and touched up oscillator solder joints. Problem still exists.

More research and talking to people. They suggest it may be the BCM module. I found a used one for my model for 100.00 Does the have to be reprogrammed? A new from the dealer is 250.00 and 250.00 to be installed and programmed. Just wondering what your opinion is and about the programing. Thanks in advance.

I could not find any information pertaining to programming the BCM in our databse so there is a possibility it is not required. If you have the BCM readily available, plugging it in to test should verify this.

Did you check for trouble codes? If the BCM is faulty, it should set trouble codes.

No trouble codes on OB2 jack. Is that where it would throw the code or would I need to take it to a dealer.

Normal code readers would not be able to read BCM codes and you need to go into BCM fault codes troubleshooting to get them. If you did not do that, then this is what you should be doing.

Not all scan tools can do it so make sure you have the correct scan tool and not necessary to be at the dealer.
