Ford Explorer Steering Problem

I have a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It appears that I have a bad shift interlock solenoid. My question is how to access the solenoid to change it out. I can see it. It is located on the left side of the steering column. It has two bolts holding it on. It looks like the steering column would have to be dropped to remove the bolts. Is that the case?

yes it is. take off the trims, remove the 4 bolts securing the column to the dash support and the column will rest on the seat and give you the needed room to acess the solenoid
