What does it mean if my SUV is making a rattling noise?

My daughter has a '96 Exploder, she says that's normal, when it stops.......Thats when you worry......the whole rig is broke down.
If you can sorta pin down the area, and maybe what it sounds like, maybe, we might continue with what it could be.

Depends on where the noise is coming from, rattling noises from underneath the body is usually just loose exhaust or exhaust hangers, heat shields etc... but if its coming from the engine compartment it could be more serious.
