My check engine light is on the code read p0351 ignition coil A primary / secondary circuit. I have changed spark plugs and tne coil on the # 1 coil according to repair manual and still the car sutters when running and the code remains the same am I missin g something in the circuit

Hello,

The secondary circuit is between the PCM and coil. Here is a guide to help test the wiring and the engine wiring diagrams below so you can see how the system works and which wires to test for the coil circuit.

I found the wiring connector was bad I had to get a new pigtail cost $32.00

V6 3.0L driving up small grade when cyl. 5 blew spark plug out off head. MIL light Illuminated than began flashing. Drove approx. 1 1/2 - 2 miles to get off road while exiting road engine quit. Wouldn't restart. Found plug laying on top of engine with coil attached. Installed thread insert installed new plug and coil. After removing batt grd. Connection and reconnecting engine restarted but ran poorly showing codes P0351 thru P0353 still. So I replace plugs 1 Thru 3 took COP off of 4, 5, 6 and swapped them with 1, 2, 3 put back together ran did not drive for several minutes still have MIL light after clearing all old codes have MIL codes P0351, P0352.P0353 with addition of P0355

Is the engine running properly? Was any damage done to the wiring harness when the plug shot out?

There is no obvious damage too any wiring component. Engine runs very rough and doesn't idle.

You know, I have been thinking about this all day. Like you, I don't understand why you are getting misfires on all those cylinders. You have checked coils, plugs. And all is good. I'm starting to think the PCM may have been damaged by not having the plug grounded.

I need to check on a few things. Don't think I forgot about you. I am also going to speak with the owner of this site to get his input.

Thank you for looking into this. I wont be able to work on this Friday. I intend Saturday too do a compression test. Don't really think it will show me anything but might as well do it. PCM are quite expensive and I like eliminate any other possible causes. Are any of the services that repair your PCM reputable

Is the engine losing coolant? I'm wondering why the plug shot out of the threads in the first place? Was the spark plug cross threaded or left loose? Could coolant of entered the combustion chamber and forced the plug out.

A combustion test is the next step, good call and that one. :-) Please let us know, we enjoy helping people.

My escape has been missing for about a week with no codes showing until after it up and died on me today, it started again just fine but the miss was way worse and the OBD was throwing code P0353 which indicates a malfunction on cyl. 3 so I replaced coil and plugs and reset the code, but still same problem. CEL came back on immediately. It has that crumby coil on plug design so I got 6 individual coils. Wiring problem? How would I test to see if the harness that connects to the coil is bad? Could a PCV leak be the cause? Or is it the dreaded PCM? Pls help me im stumped and strapped for cash, thanks for any and all advise

PS: im not a mechanic but I feel I know enough to get by, so if you can simplify any suggestions i'd greatly appreciate it

These codes shold be checked by a pro due to the many things that can cause it. Check for vacuum leak, compression fuel pressure, and broken hoses to air ducts/ maf it really should be scanned by a pro to see what is out of whack as you aren't going to know the correct voltages to everything they will

No sign of coolant in cylinder that particular plug and coil was replaced several thousand miles ago, because off a failed COP. Maybe plug was cross threaded, don't know for sure, or brought some threads out with when change then just a guess don't know. Will get back with you after compression test. Wasn't losing coolant either.

Compression 130 through 165psi my compression gauge was giving problems but worked well enough to show that I probably don't have dead cylinder. What should a motor with 100,000 miles be anyway. Just had it hauled to a shop hear where they can hook it up too there analyzer. Thanks for listening too my woe. I'm thinking running with ungrounded coil might of damaged PCM just a guess

You can take it to any repair shop not only a dealer, they are just as good if not better and are cheaper and easier to deal with. However there is a tsb on this very thing which requires replacing all 6 coil on plugs if this vehicle was built prior to 10/3/2005 but it has to be a 3.0L engine and the pcm will need to be replaced along with reprogramming. It also needs an oscilloscope to check for this so it's not something you can do. I don't know if there is an end date to this if your vehicle is effected if it was built after the production date then just take it to a regular shop. The production date should be on the drivers door or post.

When you pull the plug, is it wet with fuel? Also have you checked the fuel injector signal pulse.

I gave up took the car too a shop they redone every thing I did then told me I have a bad PCM. I want to thank you for your help. I sure hope the PCM does it

I got 2 codes one is po354 ignition coil d primary and secondary circuit malfunction and the other 1 is po-353 is coil c what can cause this and what dose it mean
