2005 Dodge Srt-10 Repair Question

SRT-10 Water Pump Leak

My SRT-10 has a leaking water pump and the shop wants to replace it. Won't a new gasket be a better first step?

Chances are the pump is leaking through the weep hole. THat indicates the bearing or internal seal is bad and a gasket will not change it.
