what is a sump or sum plug?

Does the sump refer to the oil pan or the oil pickup tube and screen?

In your other post mphautos is referring to the oil pan and drain plug. The pickup tube I mentioned is inside that oil pan. Given your description of the oil running out when the engine is not even running, he's exactly right. All the engine oil sits quietly in that pan when the engine isn't running, so that's the only place it could leak from.
