Replace a CV Joint instructions

Should I get both sides done the same time? Do I have to look forward to repeat problem in near future?

Car is making a constant cracking noise whenever I turn the wheel, whether driving - or even in parked position (or in reverse). Happened kind of suddenly. I never had any pre-indication of anything going wrong?

I'm guessing at CV joint because that what everyone else is telling me.
How long does it take to replace this?

Replacement of a CV axle takes time about an hour.

CV joint makes noise when driving at curves when you steer, but creaking noise when steering and the vehicle at stand still can be from a dry defected ball joint.
