When I purchased the vehicle 6 weeks ago, the dealership had put a new battery in the vehicle. Initial AC problems was with the driver vent blowing hot and the passenger side blowing cold. This was with the temperature set at the same temp. I took it in, they told me nothing was wrong. Yet, after that point, it started working correctly for a period of time.

Yet, yesterday was the first warm day and the air conditioning did not work. I had both climate control temp gauges at 60 degrees. When I push the AC button(with the snowflake) the light will blink several times and then goes off. Hence, blowing hot air. No matter if I had it on auto or manual controls, nothing changed the temperature off of hot air. Now, once the temp started dropping yesterday evening, the AC automatically came on and worked. It also continued to work this morning. I have not tried it since it has gotten warmer today.

I know I am not crazy. Any suggestions? Please help!

This sounds like a common problem that the driver side temperature blend door actuator is bad and needs to be replaced here is a guide which has a video to show you how to fix the problem.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers

Check blend air doors. They are responsible for the air temp coming in the vehicle.

Sometimes hot air will blow out on driver side while A/C is on. Have been turning truck off and back to on to cope with problem. Have run a scan check on vehicle and DTC code B0229 comes up. Should I replace the Blend Door Actuator and where would the actuator be found in my 1500 z71? Also, does a calibration need to be performed on I believe five actuators that make up the HVAC system?

Thanks so much guys

That code is for the recirculation actuator so that is not your temperature problem. If you disconnect the battery it will go through the calibration process.

I have the 2004 Chevy Avalanche Z71 model. At random the driver side ac turns off and the heater turns on. The passanger side ac stays on but I can not turn the heat off and the ac back on for the driver side. I have to turn the car off and restart it for the ac to kick back on?

The vehicle has electric actuators that control passenger and drivers side temperature, if it is equipped with dual zone AC. Sounds like that is the problem to me. Most likely there will be a code or codes stored in the body computer that would probably pinpoint which actuator is malfunctioning.

I love my avalanche - small problem - My AC has dual controls - one for the driver and one for the passenger - You adjust the temperature for your side - occasionally the driver side will start blowing hot air - the passenger side continues to blow cold air - I tried lowering my temp on driver side but it continues to blow hot air - If I stop the truck and turn it off - leave it off for a minute or two then restart it - the AC blows normal and continues fine - This problem happens occasionally - not every time I drive it - So what's up - and why if I shut off the truck and restart a minute later it is fine? Is this problem electrical, computer, AC?

Air Conditioning problem
2004 Chevy Avalanche V8 Automatic

I have dual air control and as I'm driving all of a sudden on the driver's side a/c shuts off and the heater (or heat) comes on while the passenger's side a/c is still on. I have to turn off my truck then turn it back on and the a/c will kick back on. Its been going on for a while now but now its happening more often. Please help me!

Thanks,
Sylvia

Hi Sylvia!
Sounds like you have a problem with the passenger side temperature control actuator. You really need a scan tool to watch the actuator move to make sure it is working correctly. Most likely this is an actuator problem and you can try replacing it. There is no way to be certian unless you check for codes and diagnose the problem with a scan tool but most of the time I have seen this, it was the actuator. H
