Buick Lesabre Clunking Problem

What could cause the transmission to shift with CLUNKING SOUND AFTER IT WARMS UP FOR A FEW MILES. WHEN IT IS COLD IT SHIFTS VERY SMOOTH

So it shifts hard into all the gears?Also have you checked for codes in the computer yet?
