I have a fault on the display panel of my 2005 Audi 3.2 triptronic with 62,000 miles on it. The fault sign is that of a steering wheel and key in red that blinks.

The Germans usually have iconic warnings that are quite literal. The problem might be in the key recognition/steering lock realm. I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your Audi service provider straightaway.

I am looking for a specific interpretation for the fault display.
PS: I am not looking for generalizations.
Either one knows it or one dosen’t.
An example is if the brake pad lights come on, the brake pads need to be replaced and they usually come on when it is down to about 80% wear.

As I interpret you response, I can see where your request would be valid. The fault should be investigated by a real person rather than my pitiful attempt to assist in answering with generalizations.
I therefore withdraw my assistance and turn it over to someone that can give you a better read on what the problem is.

Please do not self flagellate! But it helps to be precise. I did some more search and also spoke to service at a dealer. A button battery on my key fob requires replacement. Thanks.
