2004 Volkswagen GTI Engine malfunction

I recently got a warning light indicator on my dashboard that states that the indicator is a engine malfunction on board diagnostics. It says to take in for service. I was just wondering what exactly could be wrong with it.

There are over 200 trouble codes that can cause this light to come on, from as simple as a loose gas cap to something major like a broken timing belt (camshaft / crankshaft correlation).

Have the engine computer scanned and post your findings (codes) here.

Did you get it scanned? A lot of auto parts stores will scan it for free. The repair will cost you some money though, at least parts, if you do the repair yourself.
