driving with neutral

do i save gas by putting the transmission into neutral (automatic car) when decelerating and/or stopping? and are there any mechanical problems that can arise from doing this?

No, any saving will be minor you will not gain very much at all,just that if in neutral especially when decelerating, if you need power in an emergency you may not remember to select drive and you can get into trouble.
