Faulty shifting transmission

Transmission problem
2004 Saturn L300 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 91K miles
Often, when accelerating to 30MPH, the car will not shift to next gear, but seems stuck at 30mph. If I let off the gas a second and accelerate again, it is fine. Once, the check engine soon light came on, and then went off again. Does the transmission fluid need changing? Any other ideas? No codes have been obtained.

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis,finding out what's going on.

Just to add to this one you had it scanned for codes and none were found?I would have a back pressure test done at a exhaust shop I have seen a lot of clogged cats cause those cars not to shift till you let off the gas.
