2004 pontiac aztek,fwd,3400, rear drum brakes

Rear drum brakes were changed and there was a clunking noise comming from the rear brake system upon completion. so changed all hardware parts including new drums, thinking they were wrong parts. There is still a clunking noise in the rear when brakes are applied and is 10 times worse when wet. Only when slowing down, let off peddle clunking stops. Clunking occures only when peddly is applied.
What do you think my problem is??

Check the wheel bearings for excessive side play.
Have the hub checked for lateral runout.
