Why does fuel gauge goes below empty with almost half tank
Gauge drops below empty then car dies

Chances are the sending unit is bad. Also, you could have a weak or bad ground to the tank.

My 2003 LS with 88xxx miles did the same thing, it will not shift out of park, I had to get it towed. I am hearing it may be a bad electrical module located in the trunk.
