Went to go to store and shifter is stuck in park. I took off center console, shifter lever/catch is working properly when brake is depressed, when knob is depressed on gearshift, plastic lever is disengaged but cable will not give to move gearshift out of Park.

More than likely you have an issue with the cam lock inside the shifter that is not allowing the cable to move.

This could be as simple as a brake switch issue. Basically, the way this works is when you press the brakes the switch tells the shifter that it is ok to allow the vehicle out of park because the brakes are pressed.

This is a similar issue in this guide, and it will talk a little more about it.

Below is the info on the cam lock and on the transmission range switch. There is a chance that this is out of adjustment, so it is worth checking.
