2004 Ford F-150 Repair Question

Ford F-150 Body Problem
After researching the fail safe mode it was suggested
that the throttle body be cleaned. so when getting ready to
do that i noticed that the throttle position sensor was not connected (had to research that as well), not connected due to what look like the wires chewed up right at the tps connection.
This does not look recent so my question is do I repair or leave "well enough alone".
