I have a 2004 Dodge Intrepid. My Check Engine Light keeps coming on. The trouble code indicates a fuel system problem. Two different shops have said that this is a common 'false positive' when the fuel tank does not seal fully. They both reset the codes and told me to come back if there are other issues. Is this a common problem, or is something unusual going on? Thanks!

Do you know which evap code it was? If it was for large evap leak, gas cap most of the time is the problem, but if you have an evap solenoind or purge solenoind problem further diagnoses will be needed.

Did they attempt to perform a smoke test?

There is no such thing as a "false positive". Only problems they can't figure out. The only way it could be false is if someone unplugged it with the key on by mistake. We need the exact code to be any help.
