My daughter says that on occasion, there is a noise in the steering column that sounds like something is running around in it. It happens like once a day and sometimes when the car isn't even on. Her friend told her that her car did the same and the steering wheel locked up while she was driving. Now my daughter is afraid to drive it. Since the noise doesn't happen often, I'm afraid a mechanic won't be able to tell what it is or they'll want to do expensive, unnecessary work. Any idea what it might be?
