2004 Acura RL Repair Question

Acura RL Egr valve Problem
EGR valve has a white powder on it. Is this an indication of a problem?. No problems with auto except bad gas mileage. Only 7000 miles put on auto thru 08/11.

On it is not aproblem, most likely due to external contaminations.
Is the Malfunction Indicator Light showing?
