2003 Pontiac Vibe fuel gauge

Are there any other things that I should check in regards too my fuel gauge not working before I replace the fuel sending unit?

If its just the fuel part of the cluster that's not working then not really. 9 times out of 10 its the sender and that's fairly easy to replace on this car, the tank doesn't have to be dropped
