I have a 2006 Pathfinder V6 Le. The engine all of a sudden the car just would not start. It would turn over but wouldn't start. The next day it started right up. Later that day it wouldn't start. I'm told this could either be the fuel pump or the relay. Does this sound about right. Starter fluid was sprayed in the air intake to test, and it started right up but died shortly after.

If it started right up on starting fluid, that confirms it's a fuel problem here is a guide to help check the fuel pump relay inside the IPDM with the relay location in the diagrams below.

The fuel pump relay is located in the IPDM (intelligent power distribution module) and is not serviceable separately. Here is how to replace the IPDM in the diagrams below.

I brought my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder to the dealer to replace the ECM relay (recalled) and because the check engine light was on. In addition, I was told I needed a new fuel pump relay, so I need to replace it. When I was driving it home, it seemed like there was a lack of power I was told the fuel pump cannot be seen as it is located on top of the fuel tank.

STAYCE BUTTS Could you please as this as a new question and give as much information as possible? When you added your question to an older question it gets hidden and missed.

From your description it sounds like a fuel pump issue, that it isn't holding pressure when the key is shut off and the double key turn re-primes the system.
If you ask as a new question with the vehicle information we can look up more info on it.

Thank you.

Try this test, turn the key on for 3 seconds, turn it off. Now try to start it. If it starts and runs without shutting off you have an issue with the fuel pump check valve. It's job is to retain fuel pressure in the system after you run the vehicle. When you first turn on the key it should prime the system with fuel. Then the engine starts and the ECM sees the rpm change and turns the pump back on. When the check valve fails the fuel all drains back out of the lines so you have an air locked system. The engine starts on the first amount of fuel, burns it off but then hits the air and shuts off. The next time you try to start it the system has now purged the air and the engine runs.
That check valve is in the fuel pump so the only way to repair this issue is to replace the pump. Or just turn the key twice and run it.

Good evening,

The relay is the relay center. I attached a picture for you to view. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I have a 2006 Nissan frontier SE and feel my fuel pump relay is starting to fail. It sits more now that I have a work vehicle I drive M-F. It will start perfect most of the time but on a few occasions it takes a few seconds longer to fire (extended cranking time). Also every once in a while while driving all throttle response will disappear and then come back a second or two later. I would like to replace the fuel pump relay but from what I read it isn't serviceable separately, is that correct? Do I have to replace the whole IPDM?
