2003 Mitsubishi Verada DRivers door will not open

I closed the drivers door yesterday and doesn't open now. Have to get in via the passenger side. From time to time it will open from the inside but no luck at all from the outside. When I unlock from the inside the components in the door sound like they're moving. I've been using the keys to lock recently as the remote is not functioning. All other doors are ok. Is there a way to fix or open the door skin to at least get the door open.

SORTA "MODIFY" THIS TO SUIT YOUR SITUATION......SUCH AS HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE OPEN...NOT THE OUTSIDE........SEE MY LINK

WHILE THE DOOR IS OPENED....IS THE TIME TO REMOVE THE PANEL AND INVESTIGATE.....EVEN SPRAY LUBRICANT ON THE MECHANISM
