Kia Sedona Coolant Problem

The heat/defrost is blowing cold air. the heat guage goes over high in a few minutes of idle, fluid levels good and stays cold, hoses cold or warm, new thermostat, fans are working. But if is getting extremely hot very quick.

When the gauge goes up, do the cooling fans start working?
Were the coolant level in radiator checked?
