WILL NOT START

2003 Jaguar XJ8 • V8 2WD Automatic • 70,000 miles

Over a three day period, my car that was running perfectly now will not start. First, the "abs not working" and "traction control not available" flashed on intermitently on day one for no apparent reason. The next day, I added fluids, gas, oil and brake fluid as normal. I started the car that afternoon and it ran for about 10 seconds and then the "engine failsafe" warning flashed on about 2 seconds and the car shut off. After that, attempts to start the car were futile. The engine started to turn over, but would not start. At the same time, then battery began to behave as though it was nearly drained. Now, the battery appears completely dead and I cannot even open the doors by remote. I tried jumping the battery, but I only get a single "click". What could be going on here? Thanks for your help.
