RPM ISSUE! HELP
2003 Hyundai Tiburon • 15,400 miles
I have a 2003 hyundai tiburon gt 6cyl with 154,000 miles. It it doing something strange. When i first drive it for the day it shudders a bit and when i take off slowly cause i live in a quiet residential neighborhood the rpms go low and all the dummy lights on the dash come on and the car dies but it starts right back up. Also when im driving at regular speeds onthe road the rpms go up and move like normal but then they will surge up real fast and then go back to normal. I just had a brand new battery put in, new air filter and the mass airflow sensor was cleaned. What could be the problem?
Have the IAC system checked and cleaned this may be all it needs, start here.

Do you have coolant losses issues?
No coolant issues that i know of. Like today when i first drove it, i have to keep my foot on the gas because if i let go, the rpms drop and it acts like it wants to die.
That sounds like an IAC fault so get it cleaned together with the throttle body.
Ok would the iac cause the rpm issue while driving too?
A fully opened IAC valve can make the engine rpm surge up to 3000 rpm if that helps.
Yes that helps, are these also signs of a bad engine or tranny?
No, this should be a control problem rather than mechanical failure.
Oh ok thank you. You have been a great help!
You're welcome. Keep us posted on how it goes.
