Ford Ranger Wheel Problem

The truck goes “CLUNK” when in 4 wheel drive.
The 2003 Ford Ranger Reliability Rating from http://autos.msn.com says:

“An occasional problem on this vehicle when equipped with 4 Wheel Drive is failure of the 4 Wheel Drive System. The cost to repair the 4 Wheel Drive System is estimated to range from $50.00 to $600.00 for parts and $65.00 to $195.00 for labor.”

This does not tell me what the problem is or how to fix it????? I have spent the last 4 hours trying to figure this out. Any ideas?!

check your ujoinst in the driveshaft if you see rust aroung them then replace them. it cold be play in axle as well but normally ujoints are the problem.
