Can front 4x4 be unhooked and driven as a 2x2?

It is a 2 wheel driven vehicle when 4 X 4 is not selected

Yes it is, it changes to 4x4 if the rear wheels slip or I can put it in 4x4 by the touch of a button

You can disable the 4 X but it is going to throw trouble codes when the 4 x a is supposed to cut in, otherwise you can use only 2wd by taking the front propeller shaft out.
