I have a 2003 for expedition with a Triton 4.6 liter engine I get a howling or growling noise that sounds like its coming from the air intake dome where. It seem like the noise comes and goes intermittantly but when the noise is there and the gas pedal is pushed it goes away. This been happening for a while now. I thought it had something to go with the stock air box do I recently put in a K N. Cold air intake system and the noise is still there. I read on a few web sites that it may have something to do with the IAC do I took it off and cleaned it out. When I first put it back it seemed like it helped but after a few engine cycles the noise came back. Can you please help me on this issue. Thanks.

You might try removing your fan belt and starting truck up if noise goes away it's in the accessory drive someplace.

I removed the belt already and the noise was still present. The noise sounds like its coming from the air box area. Which was replaced by a K N kit

Don't know what to tell you other than it's an air leak then have a local pro look at it and give an opinion.

Ok thanks, last question for you. Do you think it could be the IAC causing the noise? It's weird comes and goes, but when you press on the gas pedal lightly it goes away. May be I'm describing it wrong by saying a grawling noise My friend said it sounded more like a popping or humming noise. Thanks for your help.
