2003 Ford Escape Repair Question

Ford Escape Engine Problem
V-6 engine..consistantly over revs on start up.Up to 2-2200 rpm.Hits around 2 grand and then starts to fall back down to idle speed.Ambient temp does not matter,engine can be warm and it still over revs.
