How do you check and or read engine codes
My Pt will start but sounds like it is chocking it out and runs very rough and backfires and eng light came on. this is the first time it has done this any ideas

take it to an auto parts store and they will do it for free
if you hav ethe scanner just plug it in and turn onteh key it is self directing from there

If you cycle the key on and off and back on 3 times quickly it will give you flash codes on the check engine light but these codes are not as specific as the regular OBD2 codes that you get with a code reader.
