I have a 2003 chevy malibu I am having problems with. While I am accelerating the speedometer bounces around all over the place but when I stop accelerating it stops and gives me an accurate speed. Also while I am accelerating it doesn't shift gears right. Its like it doesn't want to shift up. It will go into the stage like it is going to up shift but immediately goes back into the previous gear but will eventually shift but still is like it is constantly trying to shift back and forth between gears. Any Help?

Usually I see the instrument cluster itself causing this. Sometimes it is the speed sensor on the transmission that provides the speed signal to the instrument cluster going out.
To simplify this more, it could be the speed sensor, instrument cluster or a poor connection between the two parts.

Check the transmission fluid level. Do this with the transmission fluid at operating temperature and the car parked on a flat level surface. With the engine running check the transmission fluid level. Make sure the fluid level is within the crosshatch area.

Is the check engine light on? If it is this may provide additional information about your transmission. If not then it is most likely an part failure inside your transmission.
