2003 Chevrolet Cavalier Car Will Start Died Intersection Engine Turns Over

car will not start. it died at an intersection. engine turns over but it only sputters. pumping the pedal will keep it sputtering but then floor the pedal and it dies. Before it died, it started to idle very rough.
Replaced fuel filter and fuel pump 6 months ago.
