Fuel level sender

Hi. Volvo V70 D5, y 2002, station Wagon.
The fuel level indicator does not work properly: the last quarter of the tank is read all the same, so it does not show the going out of fuel !
They say that the indicator is to be replaced, but since it is all electronic (a variable resistence read by the floater etc etc.) the cost should be about 500 USD.... !!
Is that true ?. Thank you

Most fuel senders are sold as an assembly, pump included. Check with them and see if that includes new pump.
