Here is a video of me removing the crank sensor on a 4 cyl 1.8T Audi:

It's the same location for a 2.0L, 1.9L TDi, 1.8T VW and the VR6 engines.

Find the oil filter, look for the sensor to the right of the filter, just above the oil pan mounting bolts close to where the transmission meets the engine,
On the TDi engines, look to the right of the oil cooler (since the oil filter is mounted high).

A 10mm hex head bolt holds it in place (a 5mm allen can also be used inside the 10mm hex head bolt).
