While attempting to make a turn onto another road, the vehicle lost power but was running although idling with less rpm than usual. The accelerator would not respond and the check engine light activated. After being shut off for a few minutes, I could drive it again but the engine light is still on

You need to get the codes checked. Since your check engine light came on you will have a code set in the computer. This code will help to determine where to start looking to find the problem. You can post it here and I'll help you more.
