Which drive shaft are you replacing? My front drive shaft had the cv joint break at about 130k miles, so I'm guess that's what you're talking about. As for price: the part can easily be found either remanufactured, used, or there's even one company out there that made their own front drive shaft, all for about $300 or less. I've seen used ones for $100. Be sure to buy the whole thing assembled as it's a balance part and unless you've got all the tools for balancing the shaft at home, you'd better leave it up to someone who knows what they're doing. Replacing the front driveshaft (propshaft) is really easy. It's a matter of taking the bolts out on both ends of the shaft, removing, replacing, and bolting the new one in. It's easier to install when the front left wheel is off the ground. Ive even seen some websites with a full picture walkthrough. So, in the end, I wouldn't pay $960. Buy the part for $300 and spend an hour getting to know your vehicle.
