My jeep will not start, does this every few weeks. when turned key is switched over gages go haywire and nothing happens. What do I need to do? I have visited mechanics and they think it is a short somewhere. Brand new battery and alternator put in it. When I charge the battery it will let me start the jeep, but when I arrive and try to turn the jeep on again it is completely dead. much needed help this is my only way of transportation

Use a digital multimeter across battery posts, everything off, what is the reading? After you note that reading, start the vehicle, take second reading across battery posts, the second reading should be higher than the first, if charging system is working.

If you have an excessive battery drain, everything off, you can check that. You pull/replace fuses one at a time, when you pull the fuse on the faulty circuit, the excessive drain goes away. Hopefully the fault is on a fused circuit. I can help you, if your willing to do a little testing?
