Can i replace the shock absorbers with the vehicle's weight on the wheels? if need to jack, ok to jack under control arm?

I have a 2002 Isuzu Trooper 4x4, automatic. Plan to change the front and rear shock absorbers. My first time doing this. I believe there are enough room for me to get to the bolts. Don't want to jack up vehicle and remove tire if I don't have to.

Can I replace the shock absorbers with the vehicle's weight on the wheels?

If I do have to jack the front up, is it safe to jack underneath the control arm?

You can do it on the ground but it will be easier to cack it up under the control arm
