I have a wonderful 2002 Hyundai Elantra with 194,000 miles. I have kept the car maintained and have no problems taking it on long rides - but the maintenance is now running me close to $2000 a year and is approaching what a newer used car would cost.

Honestly, if it still runs good, I would keep it. With that many miles, it won't be worth too much if you sell it. Keep it going as long as you can. When a major repair comes up that is too much to invest, trade it in.
