I have a faint ticking sound under load what would this be?

I have an 02 explorer it has a faint ticking sound while in gear and under a load the only time you can really hear it is if you are beside something. What could be causing this problem? It also is sluggish sometimes when pulling out from a stop sign

Ticking maybe exhaust leak as for sluggish how recent tune? Recent repairs? Check engine light on?

Oil change about a month ago, spark plugs couple of weeks, I don't know if this has anything to do with it but last couple of days being getting a faint smell of gas when first starting up explorer thru the vents

Check for exhaust leak if leaking will give O2 false reading and lean out bank leak on causing sluggish
