What is the TDC on my 2002 Ford Escort SE with a SOHC and how do I line it up?

Tdc is where number 1 is. I am assuming you are trying to replace the timing belt I am including pic. On the harmonic balancer there should be a line or a "0" that lines up with a pointer and the compression shold be up as well, meaning the piston should be on tdc.
