Ford Escape Problem

Well, I've been reading up on a lot of information about this vehicle on how it is very common for the PCV hose going up to the intake to suck flat. Now apparently it is very common to receive a P0171 and a P0174, now im wonder how can you get a lean code from having a collapsed pcv hose?
