Hey my name is Makala. I own a 2002 pt cruiser basic model and a month after I bought it, I have had problems with it. It was fine until one day I was driving and all of a sudden in the middle of me driving, no check engine light or anything came on and the vehicle kicked or jerked and just shut off in the middle of driving. I honestly had no idea what happened and of course I freaked out.

Then for the next couple of months, I could only drive so far and it would do it again and then I had to let it sit for 30 minutes and it would crank and go for a little bit longer and then die again. I just did that for a while. Then I finally gave up and took it to 4 different mechanics and over about a 6 month period absolutely no one had an answer for me. My grandfather is a mechanic and happen to come into town and took a look at it and within 3 days changed the crank shaft sensor and it ran fine after that.

Well 7 months later after it running fine, it did that jerking/kicking thing again and turned off as before. So I assumed it was the same problem as before. I take the car to a mechanic and tell him and he changes the crank shaft sensor and then it didnt fix the problem and to add to it now it wont even crank. Took it to another mechanic and he has had it for over 4 months now and "has came to the conclusion" that it is the computer. He has bought a new computer but says it has to be reprogrammed but he doesnt know anyone around where I live to do it and that if it comes down to it, that I can buy the computer from him and find someone else to reprogram it and put it in. I am literally to the point to where I want to just sell it for dirt cheap or to a junk yard because it has been years of a headache. Can someone please help me?

Im so sorry for your frustration. You can have them flashed at the dealer. I don't know where you are but call the nearest Chrysler dealer and ask them about cost and whats needed. Like can you bring just the computer or have the car towed up there. I wouldn't put much faith in the mechanic you have simply because of the time hes had it and the little to no help hes given you. You may be able to reprogram the computer that's in the car if that's the problem. Either way, id get it away from the man who has it now
