Chevrolet Silverado Coolant Problem

I changed thermostat and motor gets hot when im stopping a lot in town but in the highway where I dont stop as much it doesn't get hot and I want to know why?

check coolant level first make sure it is full it may not be. then check to see if fan comes on when stopping it may be air in system or a bad coolant switch
