chevy s 10 rear diff

when truck is in gear the drive shaft turns but the wheels do not when i pulled the drive shaft the area it mounts to the rear diff is very lose and turns is this something i can fix or should i take to a shop

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A RING AND PINION ISSUE.DEPENDING ON YOUR EXPERIENCE LEVEL,YOU CAN REPLACE THE REAR END WITH A USED PART OR REBUILD YOURS. IF YOU HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT IT,I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND A GOOD TRANSMISSION SHOP.WITH A GOOD REPAIR MANUAL,I THINK YOU CAN DO IT.

Take it to a shop. Either the ring gear is broken, pinion shaft, or both.
